The short version. This is a small site for a small software company. You are welcome to read it, link to it, and use what we make. Please do not attack it, copy it wholesale, or redistribute software you bought from us. Nothing can be purchased here yet; when that changes, these terms change with it, and the changes will be visible on this page before anyone can buy anything.

Who these terms are with

These terms are an agreement between you and Atla Ventures, the one-person software company that operates this website and makes the programs described on it. They cover atlaventures.com and the software offered through it.

Placeholder — to be completed before the site takes its first order. The legal name and business address of the operator of Atla Ventures are not published here yet, and no company entity is claimed on this site. This paragraph is replaced with those details once they exist.

By using this site you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, the remedy is simple and costs nothing: do not use the site.

Using this site

Read it, share it, link to any page on it — no permission needed. What you may not do:

attack, probe, overload, or attempt to break into the site or the server it runs on;
use automated tools in a way that degrades the site for other people;
copy the site's text, design, or images to pass them off as your own or to build a competing page out of them;
use the site to do anything illegal, or to help anyone else do so.

We may block access from any source causing harm to the site, without notice. There is no account to lose, so this means what it says and no more.

What the pages here are, and are not

The product pages describe what a program does or is intended to do. Some of what they describe is finished and some is still being built — pages are marked Live or Coming soon accordingly. Features, prices, availability, and release timing can change, and a description on this site is information, not a warranty and not a promise that a particular feature will ship on a particular date.

We try hard to keep every page accurate, and we would rather fix a wrong claim than defend it. If something on this site is wrong, tell us and we will correct it.

Our content

The text, design, images, and code of this site, and the name and marks of Atla Ventures and its products, belong to us or are used with permission. Quoting a sentence or two with a link back is fine and welcome. Republishing pages, cloning the design, or using our names in a way that suggests we endorse or supply something we do not, is not.

Our software

Some of our programs are free and some are paid. Each program is supplied with its own licence terms, which are shown to you when you install or first run it; where those terms and these ones differ about that program, that program's licence governs.

Buying a paid program buys you a licence to use it — not ownership of the software itself and not any right to its source code. Please do not resell it, redistribute it, publish licence keys, or work around whatever licensing it uses.

Keep your own backups of anything you care about. Our software is built to be careful with your files, and Photo Vault in particular is designed to never modify your originals — but no program, ours included, is a substitute for having a second copy of irreplaceable data.

Buying

Nothing on this site can be purchased today. There is no checkout and no payment form here, and the prices shown on product pages are advance notice of what a program will cost, not an offer you can currently accept.

When purchasing opens, orders will be handled by an established third-party payment company acting as merchant of record. That company processes the payment, handles sales tax and invoicing, and is the seller of record for the transaction; its own terms will apply to the payment itself alongside these terms. We will name that company on this page before it is possible to buy anything here.

The price you are shown at checkout, in the currency shown, is the price that applies to that order. Taxes may be added by the merchant of record depending on where you are. Prices on this site can change at any time, but a change never applies backwards to an order already placed.

Refunds

Our refund policy, and the EU/UK statutory right to cancel a purchase within 14 days, are set out in full on the Refund Policy page. The merchant of record's own refund process applies as well.

Nothing on this site takes away rights you have under the consumer law where you live — including, in the UK and the EU, the right to cancel a purchase within the statutory period. Where a consumer-law right and something written here disagree, the law wins.

Links to other sites

Some pages link away from here — Hearth, for instance, is published at hearthgratitudejournal.com. Sites we link to are not under our control, have their own terms and privacy practices, and are not covered by these terms.

Privacy

What this site does and does not collect is set out in full on the Privacy Policy page. In short: no accounts, no cookies, no analytics, and no tracking.

No warranty

This site and our software are provided "as is" and "as available". We do our best to keep both accurate, working, and online, but we cannot promise that the site will always be reachable, that it will be free of errors, or that a program will be suitable for every purpose someone might have for it.

Where the law where you live gives you rights or guarantees that cannot be excluded — consumer guarantees, in particular — those apply regardless of anything in this section.

Limits on liability

To the extent the law allows, Atla Ventures is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, for lost profits or lost business, or for loss of data, arising out of your use of this site or our software. Where we are liable for something connected to a product you bought, our liability is limited to the amount you actually paid us for that product.

Some places do not allow these exclusions or limits, in which case they do not apply to you and your rights are whatever your local law says they are. Nothing here attempts to exclude liability for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Changes to these terms

These terms can change — most obviously when purchasing opens. The current version always lives on this page with its date at the top, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the new version. Changes never apply backwards to an order already placed.

Governing law

Placeholder — to be completed before the site takes its first order. The governing law and the courts that would hear a dispute are not stated here yet, because that follows from where the business is formally established, which has not been settled. Until this paragraph is replaced, no choice of law or venue is claimed by these terms, and your own local consumer law applies to you in the ordinary way.
